13 A Poem — Stormy Weather On The Natal South Coast.

AN ORDINARY LIFE OF A SEVENTY-PERCENTER

Interlude — A Poem — Stormy Weather On The Natal South Coast.

After I retired I dabbled in writing — Essays, Short Stories and the occasional Poem. This one was written as an assignment for an Internet Writing Group I belonged to. It is a recollection of a great summer storm that swept away bridges  and rendered  the South Coast road impassable for a day or so.

Stormy Weather On The Natal South Coast.

Rain…

Welcome when gentle,

brutal when raging-,-

nourishing in purpose,

destructive in deluge.

Rain…

Pouring from the sky,

drowning the land-,

driven by the system

whirling from the sea.

Rain…

Horses neighing, cattle lowing-,,

houses flooding, children crying.

Rain…

Rivers rising, bridges tumbling-,-

vehicles stalling, people wading.

Rain…

Gracious in gentleness,

fearful in excessiveness.

Now please go away -

come again a kinder way.
